v. 1. the reaction a fangirl has to any mention or sighting of the object of her “affection”. These reactions include shortness of breath, fainting, highpitched noises, shaking, fierce head shaking as if in the midst of a seizure, wet panties, endless blog posts, etc.
2. a gathering of two or more fangirls in which they proceed to waste endless amounts of time ogling, discussing/arguing, stalking, etc. the object of their “affection”
So I’ll admit I’m a fangirl, there I said it. Admitting is the first step to recovering right? Although I don’t “fangirl” about the typical Twilight or Ryan Gosling. I enjoy looking into the fashion and entertainment industry and finding women who inspire me, whether it be through their style, art, work, ambition etc. etc. And so what better way to use my hobby than to incorporate it into my blog to share with you guys? I’ll be posting articles in this series every other Wednesday, because on Wednesday is kind of suitable for fangirling I suppose? If fate permits it, I’ll also feature an interview within the post.
For the first post of my Fangirl series on Abbe Elizabeth, I got the opportunity to interview with future blogger, current model, and all around fashion inspo Alex Niue. Alex first got recognized through her Instagram that currently has over 22,000 followers, and since then she’s gotten the opportunity to model and showcase her personal style. When she’s not modeling, Alex’s attending fashion school and doing her internship. But enough of what I say, here’s the little Q & A we shared:
1. How long have you been modeling? Who have you gotten the opportunity to work with?
I don’t really consider myself a model. Over the last 6 months, thanks to the rapid growth of my Instagram, I’ve been approached by a few fashion labels and online media sites to be featured. I’ve worked with a lot of great people over the last six months, but I’ve been lucky enough to have the opportunity to work with the amazing team at Sabo Skirt and also collar with a creative collective agent called Culture Machine. Both opportunities have really opened so many doors.
2. What are your favorite places to shop?
I shop mostly online, but if we are talking actual stores Tuchuzy Bondi Beach has to be my number 1. I also love Jac + Jack, Bassike, Acne, Alexander Wang, Friend of Mine, For Artist Only, ISLA, American Apparel, and I’ll occasionally buy a Windsor Smith or Wittner Shoe.
3. Who or what is your biggest style inspiration?
Alexandra Spencer. Girl can do no wrong.
4. What are five staple pieces you always have to have in your closet?
1)White linen Tee
2)Stripe Muscle Tee
4)Black Leather Skirt
5) Heeled Ankle Boot
(and if I can have 6 it would be a Midi Skirt)
5. What is something not many people know about you?
I used to really want to be a singer when I was a kid, and my Dad always used to tell me I should go into the Fashion Industry. It took him badgering me for years until I finally gathered up the courage to enroll myself into a Fashion College.
6. Where do you get inspiration from for your Instagram?
There are a handful of bloggers I follow that love and probably subconsciously imitate but mostly I just take photos that I think look nice and are the best translation of me. The greatest feeling is when I see someone buy something I’ve posted or wear something I’ve worn or even take a similar photo. It’s nice to have that influence on people.
7. Who is your favorite designer?
ALEXANDER WANG. Man can do no wrong.
8. What is your dream job?
That’s so tricky because I want to do so many things but I think right now I’d be really thrilled if when I start Blogging I can turn that into a career.
9. What advice would you give to anyone going into the Fashion Industry, whether that be as a blogger, model, or designer?
I’d say if your going into the Fashion Industry you have to be 100% passionate about what your doing, stick to your guns, know what you want and don’t let anyone try to sway you. It’s all about believing in yourself and your vision.
I have so many, so so many. I used to work as a make up artist. Oil based removers, cleansers, serums (rosehip oil wadddup) are all amazing! So gentle on the skin, helps to plump it up and make your skin look so much fresher. Yep you can thank me later.
11. How do you make sure your feeling most confident?
Take good care of my body, eat healthy, make sure I always have a nice tan, yoga twice a week and surround myself with good positive people!
12. Lastly, where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Ideally, as a successful blogger and a buyer for an international fashion house.
Follow Alex’s Instagram for daily doses of inspiration, and stay tuned for more in the Fangirling series.
